Before joining the educational efforts at North Central Michigan College, Jim spent his career in executive management developing and expanding product lines, brands, and professional staff for major Fortune 100 corporations including Unilever, Sara Lee, 7UP USA, and Coca Cola Bottlers. He brought together and implemented the first Trade Marketing department for Unilever in the USA and guided the group for six years.
Jim left corporate America in the late 90’s to engage in technology startup businesses in customer analytics and automated marketing. He was involved in three startup technology companies and is co-founder of Big Things, Inc. / MashPlant an exclusive community and educational platform.
Jim was born and raised in Port Huron, Michigan and is a Michigan State University grad. He and his wife Sara, who is the art teacher at St. Francis School in Petoskey, moved to northwest Michigan seven years ago after spending the majority of their careers in Chicago. Following his entrepreneur nature and passion for fly fishing he began Reel Waters LLC, a fly fishing guide service. Jim is a member of the Board of Directors for the Grain Train and Miller-Van Winkle Trout Unlimited. He also writes a business column for the Petoskey News-Review.
