Where is IBIT?

IBIT's offices are located in the Science/Institute for Busines & Industry Training Building on North Central Michigan College's main campus in Petoskey, Michigan. IBIT's classes are offered at business locations, conference centers and off-campus labs throughout Northern Michigan, including the counties of Emmet, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Otsego, Antrim, and Mackinac. IBIT instructors bring classroom materials and equipment to company and agency locations to make training available to your employees ANYTIME, ANYWHERE.

Institute for Business & Industry Training (IBIT)

The Institute for Business & Industry Training (IBIT) is a division of North Central Michigan College created in 1988 to respond to the needs of area business and industry. IBIT is service-oriented and quickly reacts to requests from businesses for flexible, creative, customized employee training. In order to stay competitive, today's worker must continually acquire new skills, learn to use complex equipment and function as a more efficient part of the work team. IBIT offers the means for area businesses to keep their employees well-trained in current technology and processes.

Needs Assessment -IBIT identifies employee training needs for new & existing firms.

Employee Upgrade - IBIT delivers courses in technological and human resource skills needed to keep today's workforce competitive.

Customized Training - IBIT offers industry-specific courses at times which fit the company's production schedule at the company site or on campus.

Employability Training - IBIT provides classes in basic employment skills, reading comprehension, communication and business math for people who are unemployed or underemployed.

Funding Assistance - IBIT helps secure state & federal funds to offset training costs for qualified businesses.

Computer Software Training - IBIT provides hands-on training in the latest business software programs at their computer lab on campus or on laptop computers at company locations.

Online & Computer-Based Training - For individuals and companies with individualized training and scheduling needs, IBIT arranges technical training available online, in video and CBT formats.

Business Conferences & Seminars at North Central's Conference Center featur excellent audio/visual facilities, food service & over-night lodging by arrangement.

Computer Software Training

Computer Workshops - IBIT offers 4-week and one-day workshops designed to give you a jump start in using the latest business software packages.

IBIT Computer Lab IBIT maintains a state-of-the-art computer lab equipped with 18 multimedia student stations, an instructor station with Projection Unit, scanner and CD-Writer for IBIT workshops and corporate training.

Customized Training

Customized Training - Custom designed training is: Short-term, Job-specific, and Hands-on.

It is designed to meet the needs of a particular business or industry. Programs are designed to improve the skills and productivity of employed, under-employed, and unemployed adults. Businesses determine the type of training they need, the schedule that fits their operation, and the length of the training. IBIT conducts training programs at company facilities and/or on campus.

Employability Skills & Retraining

IBIT provides the necessary skill development for individuals to re-enter or progress in the workforce. Resume preparation, interview techniques and short-term skill based training programs are available. Recruitment and job placement are an integral part of this program.

Financial Assistance

IBIT can assist your organization in applying for a variety of state and federally funded grants to offset the training costs. Grants fund new or existing employees when new techniques and systems are being implemented.
