WINNING WINES OF NORTHERN MICHIGAN

A fundraiser for the Student Emergency Fund of the North Central Michigan College Foundation

Wednesday, May 13, 2015
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
North Central Michigan College
Iron Horse Café

North Central Michigan College celebrated northern Michigan wines at the 4th annual Winning Wines of Northern Michigan Wine Tasting and Competition on Wednesday, May 13.  The event raised awareness of our area wines, wineries and viticulture programs and much needed funds for North Central’s Student Emergency Fund established to help students deal with financial challenges that impede their ability to complete their coursework. More than $5,000 was raised for the fund.

There was a wine competition from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The competition included 87 wine entries from professional and hobby winemakers judged by a very qualified panel of wine experts, so the winners can be proud.

Our judges this year were:

  • Ron Perry, Wine Educator, Michigan State University
  • Travis Tache, Sommelier, Esperance of Charlevoix
  • Shawn Peterson, Sommelier, Wine Guys & City Park Grill
  • Jim Peters, President Straits Area Grape Growers Association
  • Mike Zagaroli, City Park Grill
  • Jordan Spence, Food & Wine writer, Graphic & Petoskey News Review

Participating Northern Michigan wineries were:

  • Burgdorf’s Winery
  • Crooked Vine Vineyard and Winery
  • Harbor Springs Vineyards & Winery at Pond Hill Farm
  • Mackinaw Trail Winery
  • Petoskey Farms Vineyard & Winery
  • Pleasantview Winery
  • Rose Valley Winery
  • Seasons of the North
  • Walloon Lake Vineyard and Winery

From 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., the public attended the Winning Wines of Northern Michigan Wine Tasting. Area wineries hosted tasting tables. This event was sponsored by the Michigan BrewVine Passport, Odawa Casino, Wine Guys Restaurant Group and the Bay View Wine Trail.
