Welcome to North Central Michigan College.

General Admissions Policy

North Central accepts the following individuals for admission:

  • High school graduates or GED holders
  • Non-high school graduates at least 18 years of age
  • High school students under Michigan Dual Enrollment guidelines.

There is no cost to apply for admission to North Central Michigan College. All students must demonstrate the ability to benefit from the instructional programs offered by the College. The standards used to determine ability to benefit are testing and/or prior college transcripts. Assessment testing standards are based on federal financial aid guidelines for ability to benefit.

New Student - Never Attended Any College Before

You have a high school diploma, GED, or are over the age of 18. You wish to pursue a degree or other credential.

Returning North Central Student

You attended North Central more than two years ago and wish to attend again to pursue a degree or other credential.
Click on Registration Steps to get ready to begin classes. We need to update your records so please complete the Portal if you have never signed up before and complete a new Application for Admission.

Transfer Student

You attended college before but not at North Central and wish to pursue a degree or other credential.
As a transfer student, Click here for information about transferring credits that will be of interest to you. You will want to have your transcripts evaluated so you do not retake courses you do not need. Transcript evaluations should be completed well in advance of any academic advising appointment as the Registrar completes the evaluation not an Academic Advisor.

Prior Degree Student

You have a previous college degree and want to take college courses toward a new degree or other credential. Click on Registration Steps to get ready to begin classes.
As a student with a college degree, Click here for information about transferring credits that will be of interest to you. Any student who has earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution will have the general education requirements, including the institutional requirements, of his/her associate’s degree program waived. The student must complete the minimum numbers of credits required to earn a second associate’s degree at the College as well as all other program requirements.

Special Admit Programs - Nursing, Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, Physical Therapy Assistant

In addition to one of the other categories, you are interested in one of the special admit programs at North Central.

Personal Interest Student

You do not wish to pursue a degree or certificate. You want to take classes for personal enrichment. You are not eligible for financial aid.

Step One: Sign up for the Student and Community Portal. Sign up for college services that you will need while taking classes such as registration, accessing your grades, free Google email, wireless services, use of college computers, and library access. Go to www.ncmich.edu and click on Student and Community Portal. Once you have completed the Portal Access page you’ll be directed to Step Two-Apply for Admission to the College.

Step Two: Apply for Admission to the College Apply for Admission to North Central Michigan College. There is no cost to apply. You will be sent a letter once your application has been processed and ready for Step Three-Register for Classes.

Step Three: Register for Classes Web registration is quick and easy. Log into the Student and Community Portal using your user ID and password, choose, My North Central. You are now ready to register online. Personal Interest students are exempt from assessment unless an English or math course is selected or a prerequisite is required for a class.

Step Four: Pay for Classes You can access your tuition and fees statement on-line by logging into the Student and Community Portal and choosing My North Central, Students and then My Student Account. Payment due dates are set and published on the web and found on the academic calendar. Payment options are: pay in full at the cashier, make full credit card payment online, or participate in the Nelnet online payment plan. Your registration will be cancelled for non-payment if not received by the deadline date. Students in the Personal Interest category are not eligible for financial aid and are responsible for all tuition and fees.

 

Dual Enrollment Student

You are currently in high school or being home schooled and want to earn college and/or high school credit concurrently. Click here for the Dual Enrollment Registration Steps to get ready to begin classes. Please pay special attention to mail that you receive from the College. It may contain time sensitive information.

Guest Student

You are currently attending another college or university and will attend North Central for a semester or two and transfer credits back to your home institution. Click here.
Additional Important Information for Guest Students.
Discuss with an academic advisor at your home institution the course selection and transferability prior to registering for classes at North Central. North Central is not responsible for the transferability and proper course selection needed for Guest Students.  Guest students are not eligible for financial aid funds. Guest students must pay all tuition and fees.
You may be required to submit a copy of your unofficial transcript if your desired class has any prerequisites to document your readiness for the course. 
Remember to complete a Transcript Request Form so an official transcript can to be sent to your home institution after the semester is completed.

International Student - F1

You have or wish to obtain an F-1 Visa to study full-time at North Central toward a degree or other credential.

Michigan Community College Virtual Learing Collaborative Only Student

You want to enroll in classes provided through the MCCVLC. This collaborative is designed to allow current Michigan community college students to take courses from other member colleges while still receiving support services at a convenient "home" college.
Discuss with an academic advisor at your home institution the course selection and transferability prior to registering for classes at North Central through the MCCVLC. North Central is not responsible for the transferability and proper course selection needed for MCCVLC Students. Tuition rate is a different rate than current home or offering institutions-see the MCCVLC website for details. You will be contacted with further instructions from the member colleges involved once you have registered through the MCCVLC.
