Steps to Enroll
Follow the steps below to begin your educational experience at North Central. North Central’s main campus is located in Petoskey, Michigan with satellite campuses in Gaylord, Cheboygan and East Jordan. For the best course selection, complete your steps early.
Step One: Apply for admission
Complete the online North Central Application for Admission free of charge. You will be notified of your acceptance status and student identification numbers by mail.
Step Two: Submit your ACT scores or take the COMPASS
Assessment is mandatory and assists us in recommending courses to maximize your success. If you have taken the ACT, you do not need to take the COMPASS. Other exemptions are listed in the Catalog. There is no cost for the first COMPASS test. The COMPASS test may be taken in the Learning Support Services Lab located in the Student and Community Resources Center in Petoskey or at the Cheboygan, Gaylord and East Jordan centers. Step Three: Submit your prior college transcripts (transfer students)
Official college transcripts must be sent to the records office for transfer credit evaluation and to satisfy prerequisite agreements. Student grade reports or student copies are not acceptable for credit evaluation. Allow 20 days for processing after transcripts are received by North Central.
Step Four: Apply for Financial Aid (optional)
Financial assistance is often needed to reach educational goals. North Central participates in state and federal assistance programs
and scholarships. Complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Apply early, as processing takes at least four weeks. The Financial Aid office is located in Student Services.
Step Five: Apply for housing (optional)
Check out our Residence Hall for affordable, fun and safe on-campus living. Call Student Services at 231-348-6682 for more information and to schedule a tour.
Step Six: Academic Advising
Meet with counselors and academic advisors to receive assistance in course selection and academic planning. Call Student Services at any location for an appointment.
Step Seven: Register for classes
Web registration is quick and easy. Complete the steps above then use your Student ID and PIN numbers found at the top of your acceptance letter to register. Access registration and current class schedule online. No computer at home? Visit the Student Services office at any location. Call toll-free for directions at 888-298-6605.
Step Eight: Attend orientation
Find out information that is important for your success. You are invited to a group session or may elect to review the online orientation.
Step Nine: Pay for classes
Payment due dates are set and published on the web and found on our class schedule each semester. Payment options are: pay in full at cashier, make full credit card payment online, or enroll in FACTS payment plan. Your registration will be cancelled for non-payment if not received by the deadline date.
