North Central Michigan College offers you the first two or more years toward your bachelor’s degree. You’ll save money, have a solid foundation for further study and gain the confidence to reach your goals in a friendly and helpful environment at North Central. Follow these steps for a successful transfer experience!

Step One: Meet with a North Central Counselor or Academic Advisor early and often.
• Meet with an advisor on a regular basis to :
- Check on your progress toward meeting the general education and/or associate degree requirements.
- Make sure you are meeting MACRAO requirements.
- Check transfer equivalencies for the courses you take.

Step Two: Evaluate Colleges
• Investigate entrance and degree requirements for transfer institutions.
• Visit with representatives of transfer institutions at the College Night at North Central.
• Go over the “Transfer Questions” on the back of this sheet and use them.
• Contact the admissions office at transfer schools and request admissions and financial aid applications.
Easier yet, go on line at www.macrao.org for access to all Michigan college websites, many with transfer equivalencies
and on-line applications.
• Check out the Transfer Guides in the Resource area in Student Services.

Step Three: Visit the Transfer Institutions
• Call and schedule a visit with the university transfer coordinator and go on a campus tour.
• Visit transfer schools early in your academic career at North Central. If you don’t visit the transfer school, you could be
planning for a school that is not right for you.

Step Four: Make a Decision
• Establish an on-going relationship with the university transfer coordinator-keep accurate records of your discussions and
keep copies of everything you send.
• Evaluate the cost, financial aid offered, and your program of study before making a final decision.

Step Five: Apply Early
• Know deadline dates and other requirements. Include any application fees that must be submitted.
• Inquire about Scholarships, deadline dates and the requirements.
• If living on campus, complete a housing request and send a deposit.
• If living off-campus, look for an apartment and ask about the deposit and lease.
• Request your final official North Central transcripts be sent to the transfer institution.
• Attend orientation sessions offered by the transfer institution.

• What are the general admission requirements such as minimum grade point?
• Is there a deadline to apply?
• Can I apply online?
• When will I be notified of the decision?
• Are official college transcripts required?
• Is the ACT or SAT required?
• Is there an application fee?
• Is there a minimum number of earned college credits required for admission?
• Is an Associate Degree required to transfer?
• What are the special admission requirements for specific programs?
• Do I need to apply separately to the program and to the University? Do I need to send separate transcripts?
• May I begin any semester?
• What options are available to me if I’m not admitted?

Transfer of Credit
• Is there a transfer guide available?
• Do any “D” graded courses transfer?
• What is the maximum number of credits I may transfer?
• When will I receive a transfer credit evaluation?
• Can I appeal my credit evaluation?
• Have I completed the MACRAO Transfer Agreement? Is my transcript stamped MACRAO Satisfied”?
• What does the MACRAO Agreement mean at the school to which I am transferring?
• Is there an advantage to completing my Associate Degree before transferring?
• Can I receive any credit for military service, life experience, AP or CLEP?

Academic Programs and Services
• What academic programs are available in my area of interest?
• What is the college’s enrollment and average class size?
• Is there a separate orientation program for transfer students?
• Can I meet with an advisor prior to registering?
• Are classes available evenings, off-campus, weekends?
• Can I attend part-time? What is considered full-time?
• Can I earn my entire degree in the evening?
• What are the graduation requirements in my program?
• What is the minimum number of credits I must earn from the college to which I am considering transfer?

Student Services
• Is on-campus housing available to transfer students?
• What kind of off-campus housing is available?
• Is family housing available on campus?
• Can I commute? What are the parking regulations?
• Are child care facilities available?
• What facilities and services are available for students with disabilities?
• What student organizations (clubs, intramurals, honor societies) are available?
• Is part-time employment a viable option on campus? Off-campus?
• Will career guidance be available?
• What job placement services are available following graduation?

Costs and Financial Aid
• How much is tuition, room and board, books?
• Are there other fees, i.e. registration, health, activity?
• When is tuition due? Are there payment plans,deferred payments?
• What scholarships, grants, loans are available?
