Portal Sign Up: Go to www.ncmich.edu, click on Student and Community Portal. Complete sign-in and you will then be directed to the Admissions Application. Keep your login information --write it down in a secure place.

Apply for Admissions: No cost. You will be notified by North Central of your status and next steps by mail.

If you have attended other colleges or universities or taken AP or CLEP exams: Request official transcripts from all colleges you have attended to be sent to the North Central Records Office. North Central can transfer in as many as a total of 45 credits from all sources. Only courses with a “C” or above are considered.   North Central will recognize up to 15 credits for Advanced Placement (AP) and/or College Level Examination Program (CLEP), provided scores on the AP are three or higher and CLEP scores are 50 or above . Failure to do so could result in you taking classes you do not need, not to mention paying for them.

Assessment: Submit ACT, SAT or COMPASS scores to North Central. If you have taken College level English Composition and MATH courses from a previous college this may satisfy assessment scores requirement. If you fall below the English 111 placement you may wish to take a developmental course over the summer depending on where you place to prepare you for college level or re-take the assessment to improve your score. We recommend you consult with an advisor to determine if you will take the correct class or that you prepare before you take any assessment test again.    The Young Americans is a selective admit program requiring that you must score into college level English in order to be admitted to the program. Both minimum scores for each test are used to satisfy the requirement:

Check Out the Young Americans on North Central’s Home Page: go directly to www.ncmich.edu/youngamericans or  go to www.ncmich.edu, go to Registration, and click on Young Americans for detailed information.

Paying for College: You will be billed for the Young American courses separately from the North Central classes you take in California. This is done in September and then again in January. If in addition, you have a regular online North Central course you must pay attention to the Payment deadline dates published on the College Calendar on the NC/Young American web page or your classes will be dropped.

Financial Aid: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal Application. Read the Getting Ready for Financial Aid information sheet on the NC/ Young American web page. You must have sent in your assessment scores and before your financial aid will be reviewed. You must be an admissible student first to have financial aid awarded. Financial aid communicates missing information and awards through the mymail account you have with the college.

Use your free College Email Account: Check your account often for college correspondence your username is the same as the Portal. Example of login is jsmithx@student.ncmich.edu  Failure to use this email account could result in missing deadlines or requests for information needed to process financial aid.

Release Form: if your parents will be calling North Central on your behalf, the Release Form must be signed by you and the parent who will call in order for us to speak to them in detail about your status. This is most effective by completing the form now not when you are off on tour and need information quickly.  A copy of the form is found on the NC/Young Americans web page under Registration, then Young Americans.
