Training Lab

Qualifications:

Experiences and credentials appropriate to serve and drive the Fab lab – CDL Class A.  Familiarity with CNC equipment.  Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse cultural and ethnic background of staff and students.  Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies for students at various ages and levels of competence. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills.

General Description: 

Drives the Mobile Digital Fab Lab (Fab Lab) to various locations across Northern Michigan based on the schedule developed by the Directors of the Fab Lab and Corporate and Community Education division.  Assists the Director of the Fab Lab in the set-up and packing of the trailer at each location.  Assists the Director of the Fab Lab in maintaining and troubleshooting all equipment and facilities related to the Mobile CNC Manufacturing Training Lab.  Coordinates the deployment of the Mobile CNC Manufacturing Training Lab between credit-based and workforce development assignments.  This includes identification of the appropriate routes, parking, power, etc.  Works with the Director of the Fab Lab in representing the college in demonstrations of the Mobile Lab at area events and assists in the recruitment of students for the program.  Conducts self in a professional manner promoting statesmanship with subordinate employees, other managers, faculty and other employees, students, local community members, and related representatives and visitors.

Provides basic instruction in Computer Numerical controlled
operations.  Assists in course and curriculum development for courses related to Advanced  Manufacturing. Works with local stakeholders to ensure that the instruction provided meets  current training needs. Assist others in representing the College and the program in  demonstrations of the Mobile Lab at area events and assists in the recruitment of students for the program.  Conducts self in a professional manner promoting diplomacy with subordinate  employees, other managers, faculty and other employees, students, local community members, and related representatives and visitors.

General Description:  

The scope of responsibilities will include connecting students and employers in advanced manufacturing; monitoring and reporting on employment trends; serving as a point of contact with the State of Michigan’s workforce development agencies; identifying, hiring outlook, workforce projections, training & skill requirements, starting wages and regionally identified institutions equipped to provide training for high demand occupations.  The Career Specialist will work with the Manufacturing Advisory Team, the Director of the Mobile Manufacturing Lab, and Associate Dean of Business, Manufacturing, and Technology , and the Director of Corporate and Community Education.  The Career Specialist will work with local employers, share environmental scanning information, identify workforce skills gaps and report finding.  And will serve as a stakeholder’s conduit responsible to the workforce, employers, school districts and communities, utilized as an outreach source for the State’s talent management.  The Career Center Specialist will identify and participate in Career Fairs and other venues centered on workforce needs.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Business or Education from four-year college or university and at least one year of work experience in an educational setting preferably higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Arts or Science, Master’s Degree preferred, in Physical Education, Recreation Management or related field.  Three (3) years of experience in health and wellness industry, preferably in an exercise education and teaching environment with staff management. Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems (or related field), and two (2) years of work experience in CIS, or equivalent combination of related experience and education. Evidence of teaching competence in CIS or closely related field.  Ability to teach web application development, mobile application development, and database administration utilizing current and emerging technologies, including open-source languages and platforms. Knowledge of adult learning theory, to include pedagogical and assessment techniques appropriate to the content area. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of, and commitment to, the community college mission.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience teaching in a CIS program in a community college setting. Ability to contribute curricular leadership in areas of web application development, mobile application development, and database administration preferred. Ability to teach IT risk management, network security, and information assurance also desired. Ability to teach courses in the area of new media and communication technologies, specifically new and emerging social media tools and web apps preferred. Ability to support instruction in digital animation, video editing, graphics and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. Demonstrated interest in seeking out new and emerging tools, technologies, and methodologies to incorporate in the classroom. Evidence of continuing professional development and involvement in professional organizations. Familiarity with institutional effectiveness planning and retention issues within a community college environment.
