Purpose:

International Day highlights immigrant stories through art and education while supporting students enrolled in BIO 295 Field Studies: Biology of the Florida Keys. Proceeds from the International Cuisine Fundraiser help students travel to MarineLab in Key Largo, Florida, for hands-on ecological field research this summer.

International Cuisine Fundraiser

Enjoy appetizers representing five of the largest immigrant communities in the United States, including chicken taquitos, aloo tikki, Chinese dumplings and Filipino barbecue pork skewers (and more).

Title: Borders, Labor and Legacy: Michigan’s Migrant Farmworkers

Amanda Flores, Ph.D., explores the history and settlement of migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Michigan and the communities they support.


Panel Discussion on Art Exhibit

Moderated by NCMC instructor Blake Morley, Ph.D., the panel features Vivek Vellanki, Ph.D., and participating doctoral students discussing themes from the exhibit.


Mexico Field Studies Student Presentation

North Central students who studied art history, archaeology, history and food in Mexico City (May 2025) will share photos and reflections from their experience.


Film Screening and Discussion

Film: The Milagro Beanfield War (1988), directed by Robert Redford

Hosted by the NCMC Film & Music Club. The film follows a small community fighting to protect local land and resources from outside development. A discussion will follow the screening.
