Early childhood education career fair, campus visit day planned

PETOSKEY––North Central Michigan College will hold two April campus events aimed at helping individuals reach their career goals.

The first, an early childhood education career fair, is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m.––1 p.m. in the Borra Learning Center on the Petoskey campus.  The Access Career Fair will provide attendees with the resources and knowledge they need to begin, sustain or advance a career in early childhood education.

Several regional employers and agencies will attend the event, including representatives from Great Start to Quality, Head Start, MiRegistry, the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children, the Child Care Licensing Bureau, and other agencies.  Onsite background checks will be available for licensees with active accounts who need to have new staff or household members fingerprinted.

“This is a great opportunity to network and collaborate with regional childcare experts to help set a path for a successful career in a critical industry,” said Jennifer Wixson, North Central professor of early childhood education.  “It really brings together all the essential licensing components under one roof at the same time, with the overall goal of increasing the number of licensed providers in our region.”

The college will also host a Spring Campus Visit Day on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m.––1 p.m.  Prospective students are invited to learn more about North Central’s academic programs, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, the college’s student clubs and organizations, campus housing and more.  Lunch will be provided.

“Our Spring Campus Visit Day is the perfect opportunity to ‘try on’ life as a North Central Timberwolf,” said Outreach Recruiter Chelse Hawkins-Olivo.  “Meet our faculty, tour our campus, and find out why North Central is the best place to take your next step toward a college degree.”

Registration is required.  Visit North Central’s events webpage or email chawkinsolivo@ncmich.edu for more information about the Spring Campus Visit Day.
