North Central Michigan College announced today that it has received a $20,000 gift to its Building Tomorrow Together campaign from Citizens National Bank.

The gift provides funding to advance the college’s initiatives in several key areas, including:

  • Creating adaptable student-learning and collaboration spaces in the new Borra Learning Center, including seven new high-tech classrooms and a 3,000-square-foot Student Commons
  • Establishing a “First Stop” near college’s busiest classrooms to provide centralized access to support services including advising, counseling, and career services
  • Increasing STEM education and entrepreneurship across the curriculum
  • Expanding access to scholarship opportunities and student success supports

Citizens National Bank President and CEO Matthew Keene said the bank is excited to partner with the college on its Building Tomorrow Together campaign.

“Education is one of the pillars of Citizens National Bank,” Keene said.  “We’ve witnessed North Central's growth in both Emmet and Cheboygan counties, and we’re proud to contribute to the college’s future in both of our communities.”

In addition to helping fund construction of the college’s new $7.4 million Borra Learning Center, the $20,000 gift will directly support scholarships for students living in Cheboygan County.  Scholarship funds will be available for eligible students beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year.

NCMC President David Roland Finley said all gifts to the Building Tomorrow Together campaign support the college’s vision to be the first choice for higher education, empowering all to achieve more than they believe possible.

“North Central is grateful for this partnership with Citizens National Bank, an organization that shares our commitment to providing students with the tools to succeed in a dynamic, interconnected global economy,” Finley said.  “Together, we’re shaping the future of higher education in Northern Michigan.”

North Central’s Borra Learning Center opened on August 19, and its new Cheboygan Center, located inside of Cheboygan Area High School, opened on August 1.
