ACCUPLACER® measures the level of ability in reading, writing and math. North Central uses ACCUPLACER® to determine which level a person will need for each course assessed. Preparation courses may be necessary prior to taking credit bearing courses.
Any person with a disability may request accommodations by calling Learning Support Services in Petoskey at (231) 348-6817.
When should the ACCUPLACER® or a Placement Assessment be taken?
ACCUPLACER® is needed for students who do not have a high school transcript, SAT or ACT score.
-
For Math placement, both ACCUPLACER® Reading and Math are needed.
-
For English placement, highest scores from high school transcripts, SAT or ACT are used. If you do not have placement scores, a North Central writing assessment is used.
Sample questions and test-taking tips are available at the official ACCUPLACER® site: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/student/practice (select the CLASSIC version).
Additional preparation may be found at:
https://www.testprepreview.com/accuplacer_practice.htm
ACCUPLACER® subjects are Reading, Math and Writing. Assessments required are determined on an individual basis. The average testing time for any section is approximately 1 hour; however, unlimited time is allowed for reading and math. A picture ID is required. The scores obtained and placement into North Central classes are issued when the ACCUPLACER® assessment is completed.
Retesting: If you feel the placement does not reflect your skill level, you may retest any portion of ACCUPLACER® for a $10 fee one additional time in a 12 month period.
ACCUPLACER® is required of all entering students except the following:
-
Students with ACT, SAT, COMPASS® or ACCUPLACER® scores on file at North Central.
-
Guest students from other colleges.
-
Pursuing “personal Interest” PE 116 OR 216 and not taking math or English.
-
