North Central Michigan College's Emergency Medical Services programs have been recognized by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) with its Superior Testing Achievement Recognition (STAR) for outstanding student performance.
The recognition was awarded after North Central's Emergency Medical Responder/Medical First Responder and Emergency Medical Technician students achieved a 2024 National Registry examination pass rate of 90% or higher by the third attempt, placing the college's programs among Michigan's top-performing EMS education programs.
According to MDHHS, the STAR recognition reflects the effectiveness of a program's educational approach and the commitment of its leadership, instructors and students. The department noted that consistently strong examination outcomes demonstrate the effort invested in preparing knowledgeable, skilled and confident EMS professionals who serve communities across Michigan.
"This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty and the hard work of our students," said Brent LaFaive, dean of Nursing, Health Sciences and Public Safety Programs. "Preparing competent, compassionate EMS professionals is central to our mission, and we're proud to see our students' success recognized at the state level."
North Central offers EMS education that prepares students for careers in emergency medical services through hands-on instruction, clinical experiences and preparation for National Registry certification.
