Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, with documented training in experimental design, genetics, biochemistry, as well as environmental sciences, ecology and botany/zoology. Evidence of teaching competence in biology or closely related cognate field. Ability to model safe handling and disposal of chemical and biological specimens; design and implementation of scientific experiments; use standard laboratory instruments (microscope, balances, pH meters, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis set-ups, autoclaves and incubators).  Supervision of part-time and student workers in management of greenhouse. Guidance to campus and community members about status of natural area. Ability to contribute coursework and curricular leadership in biology.  Knowledge of adult learning theory, to include pedagogical and assessment techniques appropriate to biology instruction.

Excellent written and oral communications skills.  Knowledge of and commitment to the community college mission.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience biology in a community college setting.  Demonstrated interest in seeking out new and emerging tools, technologies, and methodologies to incorporate in the classroom.  Commitment to experiential learning.

Evidence of continuing professional development.  Familiarity with institutional effectiveness planning and retention issues within a community college environment.

Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Education with a concentration in Early Childhood.  Evidence of teaching competence in early childhood education.  Coordination of the Early Childhood Education (ECE AA) program, inclusive of managing articulation agreements with University Center partners; coordinating ECE scheduling and budget needs with the Dean of Liberal Arts; selecting program textbooks; facilitating relationships with prek-12 schools and community programs that serve the 0-5 population; and other duties.  Current knowledge of regulatory frameworks and best-practice approaches to early childhood education.  Ability to contribute coursework and curricular leadership in early childhood education.  Knowledge of adult learning theory, to include instructional and assessment techniques appropriate to education instruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master Degree in Nursing
  • Current Michigan Nursing license
  • Three years experience teaching nursing including clinical and classroom instruction
  • Strong knowledge background in Medical-Surgical Nursing; clinical specialty documented by education or certification
  • Three years full-time clinical experience with direct patient contact
  • Back ground knowledge of classroom and student assessment
  • Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and the community
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience in Community College or University setting
  • Experience with simulation utilizing high-fidelity in nursing education
  • Familiarity with and use of collaborative learning techniques
  • On-line teaching experience
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments in regional clinical sites
  • Awareness of current trends/issues related to the profession, and active in community and professional organizations
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Critical care nursing experience
